Nazira Hangbadik Mancha Honors Veteran Journalists Biren Sharma and Anuj Rajkhowa with Samaj Hiteishi Award-2025

Nazira: Veteran journalist and retired teacher Biren Sharma, along with noted social worker and journalist Anuj Rajkhowa, were conferred the prestigious 'Samaj Hiteishi Award-2025' by Nazira Hangbadik Mancha on June 25. The awards recognize their remarkable contributions to education, journalism, art, culture, and literature.

Biren Sharma, 86, a former principal of Chakimukh Higher Secondary School, is celebrated for his insightful articles and essays in publications like Dainik Asom, Dainik Agradoot, and The Clarion. He has also enriched Assamese literature with his children's books, songs, and poems. Anuj Rajkhowa, 73, a prominent figure in Nazira’s cultural and journalistic circles, has contributed to Aajir Asom and Dainik Janambhumi while captivating audiences with folk dance performances, including Nepali, Kathi, and Banh dances.

Due to health concerns, both awardees were honored at their residences. The felicitation included a traditional Assamese gamusa and a citation. The ceremonies were attended by Mintu Chitrakar, president of Nazira Hangbadik Mancha, alongside dignitaries such as social worker Prasanta Borthakur, Mahendra Bargohain, and Wahid Ali, president of Galeki Press Club. A delegation led by Kanak Gogoi, state secretary of the Communist Party of India, also paid tribute to the recipients.
