Nazira, June 27, 2025: The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully capping Well RDS#147A, effectively resolving a gas leak that began during service operations on June 12, 2025.
At dawn, ONGC’s Crisis Management Team (CMT), alongside experts from Cudd Pressure Control and local operations teams, executed a precise operation to remove the damaged Blowout Preventer (BOP) from the wellhead. The team then installed a pre-prepared capping stack, redirecting the gas flow safely and securing the wellhead. The BOP was subsequently closed, halting the gas discharge entirely.
This operation, completed without any injuries, fatalities, or fire incidents, showcases ONGC’s engineering prowess, meticulous planning, and strong collaboration with global and local partners. ONGC maintained full transparency, issuing daily updates throughout the two-week operation.
The successful capping of Well RDS#147A marks the culmination of ONGC’s well control efforts. The corporation expressed gratitude to the District and State Administration, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and the local community for their unwavering support.
ONGC remains committed to safety, environmental responsibility, and operational excellence, with further steps in the well control process to follow as per protocol. This press release, issued by ONGC’s Corporate Communications, serves as the final update on the RDS#147A incident.
