Security forces have intensified operations against ULFA (Independent) in Assam’s Charaideo district, which shares borders with Nagaland’s Mon and Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding districts. In the last two days, a joint operation by Assam Police and Assam Rifles has led to the arrest of 10 individuals suspected to be working as linkmen for ULFA-I.
According to official sources, the arrested individuals had either direct or indirect ties with the banned outfit and were picked up from multiple locations across Assam and Mon district in Nagaland. Those arrested include Asim Adhikari from Pandu in Kamrup district, Balen Deka and Dhrubajyoti Baishya from Harisinga in Udalguri district, Dharmen Deka from Napta Para in Darrang district, Sirajuddin Ali and Imran Ali from Chenigudam in Sonari, Surajit Dey from Bhowanipur in Sonari, Shanku Das from Borahi Kachari village in Sonari, and Aham Kanyak from the Naginimora area of Mon district, Nagaland.
With these latest arrests, the total number of ULFA-I linkmen held in Charaideo district has risen to 22 in the past 12 days. Security forces say the ongoing operations aim to dismantle the remaining network and sleeper cells of the banned outfit in the region.
