350 NCC Cadets Participate in Combined Training Camp and Disaster Response Programme at NERIST

Nirjuli, June 3: The 1 Arunachal Pradesh Battalion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), under the aegis of the NCC Group Headquarters Tezpur, has commenced its Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-37) cum Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme (YAMS) programme at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Nirjuli. The ten-day camp began on June 1 and will continue until June 10.

A total of 350 NCC cadets from Group Headquarters Tezpur are participating in the camp, including 56 cadets enrolled under the Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme. The camp is being conducted under the leadership of the Commanding Officer and Administrative Officer of 1 Arunachal Pradesh Battalion NCC, supported by 11 military staff members, four Associate NCC Officers (ANOs), and two Caretaking Officers (CTOs).

The camp will also serve as a pre-coaching programme for the Under-17 Boys team and a selection-cum-training camp for the Under-17 Girls team of NCC Group Headquarters Tezpur for the prestigious Subroto Cup Football Tournament.

According to NCC officials, the primary objective of the camp is to expose cadets to the discipline and rigours of camp life while fostering the NCC’s core values of unity, discipline, national integration, and camaraderie. The training programme includes physical training, field craft and battle craft basics, equipment and section drill demonstrations, and small arms firing.

“These activities are designed to develop physical fitness, mental resilience, teamwork, and leadership qualities among cadets,” officials stated.

A major highlight of the camp is the Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme (YAMS), an initiative of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness among youth volunteers. Under the programme, cadets are receiving specialised training in disaster response, including relief, rescue, and emergency response measures for natural disasters such as floods, cloudbursts, and earthquakes.

The disaster management sessions are being conducted by qualified instructors from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Arunachal Pradesh, who are providing practical and hands-on training to the cadets.

The camp schedule also includes guest lectures by distinguished personalities from various fields. These sessions are intended to motivate cadets and provide guidance on career opportunities, contributing to their overall personality development.

Officials said the combined training camp reflects the NCC’s commitment to building disciplined, socially responsible, and disaster-ready youth capable of contributing effectively to society and the nation.
