Assam's Bhoot Jolokia has become famous as the worlds hottest chilly a few months back. Guinness Book of World Records has awarded this title to our very own red chili and the media all across has been covering this event widely. But almost all reports in English named this chilly as “ghost chilly” translating the name directly from Assamese. In Assamese “bhut” stands for “ghost”. Bhot actually means people of Bhutan. Awarded chili is Bhot Jolokiya not Bhut Jolokiya In Assam everyone knows it. Some journalist made this mistake sometime back and it is continuing

Thanks to Mr. Neog for the report. Regarding the name of 'Bhoot jalakia' re(?)search should be done how this variety of chilly got this name. Hope to get feedback. Would like to know details about this variety.

Actually the so called bhoot chilly is entirely found in the north east region of India. So better not to comment on the name or whatsever. There is no doubt that it has got great quality .so dear, if u really want to know then contect me..

BTW..... its total bullsh** that its BHOT JOLOKIA.. its actually "bhoot jolokia" and it means ghost chilly in assamese because of the hot spicy taste it produces. and crossword jolokia is pronounced as jo-lo-ki-aa

Two youths arrested in Guwahati with deadly weapons

Security forces have apprehended two youths during a sudden operation in Guwahati on Tuesday and seized the deadly weapons from their possession. The militant was picked up from Dighalipukhuri area in the city following a tip-off. Investigation is on. PREPAK militants are believed to have been operating from a hideout in Guwahati.

Fire at JMCH; Narrow escape for 26 babies

Twenty-six new born babies had a miraculous escape Tuesday when a devastating fire broke out in the Jorhat Medical College. The incident took place in the wee hours at the special care unit. Patients and attendants in the hospital raised an alarm and the babies were immediately shifted to a separate ward. The fire broke out due to short circuit in a machine in the radial warmer unit. Principal of Jorhat Medical College and Hospital Dr Dhurbajyoti Borah has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

AIUDF demands Siddeque’s resignation

AIUDF has demanded the expulsion of Border Areas Development Minister Siddeque Ahmed over his alleged land involvement in a reserve forest. During the recent visit to the spot, a party team spoke to the affected persons who accused Ahmed of misusing his powers to evict a number of families who had been residing in that area for decades. Financial assistance for AIDS victim relatives

Good news for AIDS patients and their relatives. The Assam government on Saturday announced that it would give financial assistance to the next of kin of those who have died of AIDS. Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarmah said that the government would give Rs 1 lakh to the family members of those who have died of the disease as they too suffer considerably during treatment of such patients.

Himanta gives away cheques to kidney patients

Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday distributed cheques to kidney patients for transplantation. He said that the government would also provide a daily allowance of Rs 100 daily to buy medicines from outside to all patients who undergo treatment at government hospitals, besides free treatment and medicines available in the health centres. The minister distributed cheques worth Rs one lakh to kidney transplanted patients for post-transplantation care at a function on Saturday.

Minister of state for cooperation and border areas Siddique Ahmed has urged transport minister Chandan Brahma to include state in transit routes from the north-east to the rest of the country through Bangladesh. Photo electoral rolls: APW to move HC

The Assam Public Works on Saturday would move the Gauhati high court next week against the Election Commission and state government's decision to launch photo electoral rolls. The Guwahati based non governmental organization fears that the decision will aid illegal foreigners get enlisted in electoral rolls and decision move should be postponed until the National Register of Citizens is updated. APW has been fighting a case against the state government in Supreme Court against its failure in updating the NRC in Assam.
