Guwahati : Female shoplifters are plying in Guwahati. The police have arrested a three member group of female shoplifters, who were involved in several jewellery theft cases.A jewellery boutique owner informed the police about their presence in his shop post which police immediately rushed to the shop and caught them. They were identified as Nazma Begum of Islam patty, Golaghat (37 years), Rubi Begum of Kamarpatty, Guwahati (33 years) and Pranati Nath of Karimganj (25 years).
This gang was already wanted in connection of a case which was registered at Panbazar police station. Owner of the L. Gopal Jewellers situated in Kuber Hotel campus registered a case in Fancy Bazaar out post a few months back complaining of theft of valuable jewellers in his shop by a gang of three women. The complainant had also produced a few photographs of these women collected from close circuit camera fitted in his shop to police. Police immediately published these photographs in a local magazine.
On Saturday evening, the same group entered a jewellery shop at Shoppers point, a city mall posing as customers. The shop owner, who had seen those photographs published in the magazine earlier identified them immediately and informed police. Later, in police custody they revealed that they were involved in scores of shoplifting cases, particularly jewellery lifting in Guwahati as well as other towns of Assam. Police have started operations to recover the different theft items and have also sent a team to Golaghat, which is believed to be the main operational area of the gang.
