As a part of the Golden Jubillee celebration of Barpeta Town Athletic Club, the two world champion of Barpeta District, Muscle Mania, Mr. Universe 2009 Mahadev Deka and world Archeri Champion vs Arjun Awardee Jayanta Talukdar were felicitated at Barpeta Tarun Ram Phookan Hall premises on July 17 from Barpeta Town Athletic Club. The felicitation meeting was presided over by Dr. Tara Prasad Das, President, Golden Jubillee Celebration Committee, Barpeta Town Athletic Club and MLA, Sarukshetri LA whereas Mr. Universe Mahadev Deka, Basistha Devsarma, Burha Xatriya, Barpeta Xatra; Gunindra Nath Das, MLA, Barpeta; Phanidhar Kalita, DC, Barpeta; Debajyoti Mukharjee, SP, Barpeta; Bipul Deuri, President, All ASsa Body Building Association; Ranjan Talukdar, Father of Jayanta Talukdar; etc also addressed. As the world Archeri Champion Jayanta Talukdar remain busy in preparation for China tour, he could not attened the programme. His father Ranjan Talukdar accepted the felicitation. Later on Jayanta Talukdar conveyed his gratitude to the people of Barpeta on telephone.Earlier Mr. UNIVERSE Mahadev Deka was welcomed with Gayan- Bayan and procession. Dr Tara Prasad Das opened a sports Welfare fund on that occasion.

Barpeta Anchalik AASU remembered the martyrs

On the eve of 15 August, Barpeta anchalik AASU remembered the martyrs of Assam movement with the lightening of the lamp of 855 earthen lamps at Barpeta Panch-Ali Chowk on Sunday. After the 25 years of Assam accord barpeta district AASU remembered these martyrs. This programme was inaugurated by Jagannath das, and Satya Krishna Misra, of Barpeta. Dead body of the servant recovered

A dead body of a girl servant namely Krishna Medhi was recovered in a pond at Gandhi Nagar area at Barpeta town on Sunday night. According to report, Krishna Medhi was the servant at one Dwijen Das residence, workers of LIC, Barpeta branch of Barpeta Gandhinagar. Mentionable that the dead Krishna Medhi had been worked as a servant somany years at the house of Dwijen Das. The local people of the area found her dead and rushed to the sadar police station of Barpeta. The local people and Krishna’s family members wanted to say it as a murder. The police caught Dwijen das, for interrogation. But there was no case filed till filing this report.

4 killed in Barpeta police firing

Four people died and over 50 others have been injured when police opened fire on a group of student protesters trying to stall government proceedings of updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Barpeta on Wednesday.
