Assamese Lady honoured Rajiv Gandhi Award

On the occasions of the 66th birth anniversary of Late Prime Minister of India Shri Rajiv Gandhiji , All India National Unity Conference on National Integration and Communal Harmony awarded the RAJIV GANDHI RASHTRIYA EKTA SAMMAN 2009 for outstanding contribution and performance in the field of education, entrepreneurship, social activities, science and technology and such other fields towards development of our society. The Function was held at India International Center, New Delhi on August 19.


Smti Geetika Barooah Changkakoti has been distinguished to recieve this award for 2009 amongst other awardees selected from various corners of India as an eminent entrepreneur of the North Eastern Region of Assam in India. Prior to her this award has been received by prominent personalities like Mother Teresa, Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt, Rusi Mody, Dr. S Padmavati, Navjot Singh Sidhu, A.K.Shukla (CMD Lic), Birju Maharaj, Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Dr. Balamurli Krishna, Sushmita Sen, and other distinguished personalities of India.


The Awards were given away by his Hon'ble Minister of State, Govt of India Ajay Makanji and Former Governor of Assam Bhisma Narayan Singhji| Other distinguished guests for the occasion were Dr. G.V.G.Krishnamurty (Former Election Commissioner), Dr. Justice A.R. Lakshmanan (Chairman , Law Commission of India), A.I.C.C. Gen Secy, Choudhury Prem Singh, Gurinder Singh ( Editor Indian Observer), Sushil Kr Shinde, Sriprakash Jaiswal, Oscar Fernandes, Joginder Singh. The function was attended by a host of guests and dignitaries to mark the occasion.

We should know more about the award as this kind of aars are given in many times. We need to know more about the award. This can not be any proud momnet for the state. We need to know more about the selection processes and who are the jury and all.

Two persons died and nine others have been injured when a powerful bomb exploded at Bhagagarh area in the city on Thursday. That too minutes before the arrival of the Union home minister arrived in Guwahati. According to information, the blast took place at the vegetable market. The bomb was plnted at a bicycle which exploded at round 5-30. The injured persons have been rushed to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. Amid a widening crack within the National Democratic Front of Bodoland, the Bodo rebel outfit announced that their general council has sacked Ranjan Damry alias D R Nabla from the outfit.In a statement on Thursday, they said they were not satisfied with the recent statement of Daimary where he announced that he was still at the helm of affairs.NDFB president B Sungthagra said they are committed to peace process and that they will carry forward the process.
One person was injured when a minor blast took place in the city's Birubari area in the afternoon on Thursday. According to information, the bomb was planted inside a dustbin which exploded at around 2-45 in the afternoon.The injured person was waiting near the dustbin.
