In a big blow to the Assam Public Service Commission, the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday stays the list of the successful candidates in the combined competitive examination conducted by the Commission in 2007. The court order came as a division bench of High Court comprising acting Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Biplob Kumar Sarma was hearing the petition of a group of candidates who alleged gross anomalies and corruption in the examination.

If the corruption begins in administrative services at selection stage itself, how beneficial will be the society, it can be easily interpreted by everybody. In totality, the fame of APSC is on stake at the cost of genuine candidates future too!!!

Assam needs a young dynamic CM in his twenties. Not this old bunch of politicians totally out of sync with today's time. When corruption becomes the motivation of an administration, things go haywire. Assam is no longer meant for the intellect - only thieves prosper here.Absolute shame.

The APSC is a big corruption house. They are simply here just to loot and cheat common people, quite a mockery to the system.The selection is just a money game and greatly politically linked. This organisation should be quased immediately.Bureaucracy is so poor in Assam because of this so called unfit ACS officers.

Engineer kidnapped, killed in Guwahati

Utter insecurity still persists in Guwahati these days. Despite heavy presence of security forces, suspected Ulfa militants killed an engineer after he was kidnapped on the way back to his home on Thursday. The incident took place when agriculture department engineer Manik Baishya called up his wife at 7.30 evening that he was forcibly towards Jalukbari. ULFA cadre arrested in Guwahati

Police have arrested a hardcore Ulfa cadre in Guwahati on Thursday. The Ulfaman is being identified as Binoy Baishya from 709 battalion. He was arrested from Hengrabari area in the city.

Heavy downpour hits Guwahati

A heavy downpour has disrupted normal life in Guwahati besides fueling the risk of floodwaters in the city. 5-day CBI remand for Amjad Khan

A CBI special court on Wednesday remanded Amjad Khan to CBI custody for 5 days a day after a whopping Rs 13.45 crore was recovered during a raid in Guwahati. The entire amount is understood to have been kept by his brother in law of R H Khan, the accused in the multi crore scam in the North Cachar Hills district. Khan, the deputy director of the social welfare district attached to this hills district has been absconding after procuring bail. Huddle in Delhi for talk with ULFA

Preparation for ULFA-Govt talk gathers momentum on Wednesday. Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi met Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in Delhi. Sources told Assam Times that Gogoi met the home minister at 3 in the afternoon who assured him of all help required to ensure talk with ULFA. Gogoi formally urged Chidambaram to appoint former IB director PC Halder as the government interlocutor in the talk with ULFA. Halder has been interlocuting in the centre's talk with NSCN-IM.

Former intelligence bureau director P C Halder is likely to be appointed as the government interlocutor to hold talk with ULFA. 3 died, 10 injured in bus-truck collision
