Regular deaths of wild elephants in the tea gardens of Udalguri resented
The alarming unnatural deaths of the wild elephants in the tea gardens of Udalguri district has been resented all over the state. So far four wild elephants have lost their lives and two narrowly escaped death in the district in the current year. A seven feet tall (10 years old ) female wild elephant has been found dead in the section No.25 of Orangajuli TE on September 17 at 9-30 am. According to eye witness, the elephant was seen moving with very weak movements in the morning. But it succumbed to death before the arrival of forest and veterinary personals. According to Bankim Sarma, DFO, Dhansri Division, Udalguri, postmortem had been performed by Dr..R.K. Chamua, VAS, Tangla. He further said that collected samples would be send for forensic tests to find out the cause of death.
On the other hand nature lovers and NGOs, engaged in the conservation activities have condemned the serial deaths of the wild elephants in the district. Members of Green Valley Forest and Wildlife protection Society (a Nonaipara based NGO) condemning the deaths said that government had not paid compensations to the members of the families who had been killed by wild elephants in the district. They also alleged that government had not been supportive to them although they had been doing much for the creation of awareness among the villagers. In the mean time WWF officials along with local NGOs have visited the site for solving the problem

Protesting against sharp price rise of essential commodities in the country,more than five hundred people mostly woman staged dharna in front of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office today on September 2 at 11 am on the day of Bharat Bandh.The protesters blocked the main gate of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office preventing government officials and employees including Additional Deputy Commissioner Udalguri.
