Assam gets ready for I-Day

Guwahati: A mammoth security is there across Assam to ensure peaceful celebration of the 60th Independenace Day fallling on Wednesday.

Security forces are being fanned in all the state’s vital areas including bridges, railway tracts, oil and natural gas installations fearing stepped up activities of the banned outfits.

Police and para military foces are guarding the flag hoisting places in all district headquerters.

Dispur has asked the district administrations to deal with the situation firmly to ensure peace and normalcy on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is schedule to hoist the national tricolour at the historic Judges’ Field at 9 in the morning.

Kamrup district administration beefs up security measures to make the I-Day a peaceful. The city police announce some change in the the bus routes during the function at the Judges’ Field.

On the other hand, several intellectuals, litterateurs and journalists urge the people of all sections to ignore the ULFA’s boycott call and to hoist the national flag.

Notably, ULFA calls a 24 hour Assam bandh from Tuesday 6.00 pm to Wednesday 6.00 pm. The banned outfit further urges the people to boycott the I-Day.

In yet another development on Monday, the three tier Unified Command Stucture met here in Dispur and finetunes a set of strategies to deal with the situation firmly.

The meeting reviewed the state’s overall law and order situation and decided to tighten security measures on Wednesday to foil any militant bid to disrupt the I Day celebration.

Coming out of the brainstorming session Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi says, “the unified command meet decided to launch the operation in the hills district to bust their camps atop the hills district.”
