Shreemoyee Asomiya Mahila Samiti (SAMS) organized ‘Zubeen nite’ at Bunt’s Centre, Navi Mumbai on Novembver 28. The event was inaugurated by the chief guests, The Chief Adviser of SAMS & Deputy Resident Commissioner of Assam Bhawan Sri Debasish Sharma, Sri Abani Das, Dr. Tapan Saikia & Sri Shyama Prasad Borthakur , the vice president of Assam Association Mumbai, by lighting the lamp.
Mrs Nibedita hazarika (gen secretary,SAMS) started the evening with the welcome speech and informed the people the cause of the event. The money raised from this event will be spent for the welfare of the society specially for underprivileged women and children. Zubeen Garg, the famous bollywood playback singer and music director of Assam has always taken part in these kind of charity programmes.
Zubeen Garg recently won the 55th National award for best music director for the film ‘Echoes of silence’. He was felicitated by Mrs.Bina Saikia( President, SAMS) with a ‘gamucha’ and a bauquet.
The anchoring for the event was done by famous Assamese actress and dancer Mrs. Barsha rani bishoya.She was felicitated by SAMS joint secretary Mrs. Indrani Borpujari with a bauquet.About 25 cancer patients staying at Assam Bhawan were invited by SAMS to the programme. Along with Zubeen’s performance , there was a dance performance ‘Mangalacharan’ by Kumari Bhavya , Comedy programme by famous Mr. Narendra Bhansali and songs by Miss Prarthana Chowdhry. Dispur is all set to undertake the second phase of power sector reforms in the form of major initiatives to boost generation and greater efforts for privatisation. The gory incident took place at Cinamora in the outskirt of Jorhat town where five persons beheaded two brothers at the height of a land dispute at around 11 in the morning. A meeting of Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla and leaders of All NGOs Joint Committee of Mizoram on Sunday decided to resolve boundary disputes with Assam. The All NGOs Joint Committee handed over a memorandum on boundary dispute to the chief minister and informed the latter about the efforts being made so far by the NGOs on the issue.

Four persons, including a woman, were killed and three others injured when a mini truck collided its head on a van at Ledo in Tinsukia district on Monday. Dispur rolls up its sleeves to set up two separate police cells to firmly deal with Maoist elements and the menace of counterfeit currency. Disclosing this on Monday, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that both the cells will be headed by officers not below the rank of an inspector general of police. He said that the Maoists tactics are different than other insurgents. That’s why, he said specialised skills were required.
“We would strike deal with the Centre for the specialised training of the officers,” he said. Gogoi’s announcement assumes significance a few days after P Chidambaram assured the north east of all help to deal with these elements.
