Once again the best of the music talent in the Northeast will get a chance to showcase their immense talent in the newly released album The Great Eastern Rock Volume 2 which have hit stands. This time 17 bands have been chosen out of 723 entries to be featured in this album which is available free of cost with TNT-The Northeast Today Magazine.
'The first Great Eastern Rock CD had a tremendous response and we were all pleasantly surprised with the response of the readers of the magazine and the music fans and we have taken note of all the recommendations to ensure that this album is better than ever' says Geetharatha Mushahary who also works as the talent spotter in the TNT team. With entries from as far as Singapore, Sweden, USA and also different parts of India, it was a task which was not easy and finally we narrowed down to17 tracks which, according to me, is the best balanced record endores Gareth Lyngwa - who is one of the many people behind this concept. With almost no sponsorship coming by the entire cost of the CD and the Print work was borne by the The Northeast Today Magazine and as Rajoo Sharma, the Managing Editor says, 'This album came out because of our genuine love for music and not just a marketing ploy, we did not get any sponsors this time though they made all the promises before, about promoting talent in the Northeast so we decided that we will still go ahead because thats what our heart said'.
This time the album features two bands from Assam- Silver Tears and Dark Horizon. The other bands in the album are Atiar, Northwind, Eye2Eye, Horjwlai, Infinite Ashes, Dima Project, Recycle, Polyticks and Girish Pradhan amongst many others. ‘We decided to give the CD free without any added cost because we would like the fans to avail the copy without any added cost and our aim is to promote and not to make money’, says Joe Lanong, one of the talent spotters for the GER Vol 2. The Editor and Publisher of the Magazine P.B.K Manikya Deb Burman who himself is a huge music fan said that TNT –The Northeast Today will continue to strive and promote talent from the Northeast and give the bands a platform to be heard beyond just the region. We are the largest circulated magazine from the Northeast and we are now also available in the Metro’s and Nepal so the impact of this will be huge.
It may be mentioned that the magazine also covers current affairs, sports, environment, travel and politics amongst various other topics.

A down to dusk is what marks the 60th Republic Day in Assam on Monday. All sorts of vehicles are off from the road. Business establishments across the state are remaining closed as the rebel outfits of thwe north eastern region have given a boycott call.Amid an watertight security arrangement, Assam Governor SC Mathur is unfurling the national tricolor at the Latasheel Playground for the first time in lieu of the historic Judges' Field. He is also taking the salute of the army, police and para military forces. There is no report of any incident received so far.

Preparations for the coming Seventh Elephant festival has begun along with the construction work of the pendal that formally started on January 18. The DC of Golaghat planted the Laikhuta with a ritual process in a brief function organized in Mihimukh field. The programme was also attended by SDO(c) of Bokakhat and the Director of KNP. In yet another case of rhino attack, a woman died in Sonitpur district on Saturday morning.According to information, the incident took place at at Banpur Hokomara Gopsar under Jamuguri police station at around 10 in the morning. The deceased was identified as Suminder Sahaney. the rhino came out of the newly annexed portion of the Kaziranga National Park.
The Border Security Force have appreheded a Bangladeshi national at Mancachar early in the morning on Saturday. According to information, he is identified as Palash Biswas, a resident of Gopalganj district of Bangladesh. Later he was handed over to Mancachar police.
Dubai based "Axam Xamaj", (Assam Society, UAE, Dubai) celebrated Magh Bihu on Friday, the 16th January, 2009, with a day long program. The venue for the celebrations was the scenic Creek Side Park, located right in the heart of the city of Dubai. The program witnessed the participation of an unprecedented number of about 175 including tiny tots and babies in arms. One stray rhino of Kaziranga National Park killed a woman Subheswari Ghatowar of Rajabari recently at her residence. Later the rhino was taken back to the park. Another two rhinos of KNP are presently taking shelter in Rohita Chapari of Dergaon. The Forest Department, on the other hand are strictly following the rhinos for protection. It was reported that rhinos go out of the park to mate with other rhinos.
