Book fair science model exhibition at Udalguri

Udalguri district administration is all set to arrange a district level book fair & science model exhibition on March 14,15 and 16 for the promotion of science & technology in the district. A preparatory was held on January 29 at DC’s parade ground at 3 pm attended by more than 400 representatives including all ADCs, PD,SDOs, Circle officers, all departmental heads and all principals and headmasters of the district.Rihan Daimari, Minister PHE, Assam and Mitha Ram Basumatari,EM,BTAD also attended the meeting. Dr.SS Meenakshi Sundaram DC,Udalguri presided over the meeting. PK Mahanta ADC, Udalguri in his welcome speech said that it was very much necessary to arrange such events for the students of the district. MP Sarma Project Director DRDA gave in details of the proposed programme to be the first of its kind in the district.According to him a budget of Rs.8 lakhs had been considered for the programme.Mitha Ram Basumatari, EM, BTAD also spoke on the occasion and remarked that people had forgotten some of the most important aspects of life in the midst of violence and killings.He said that it was time to burry violence for good. Jayanta Kumar Das, district Aryabhatta Science & NCSC coordinator welcomed the move and suggested a few ideas like arranging a sky observation programme in association with Guwahati Planetarium during the programme.Journalist Mukut raj sarma and former ABSU president of Darrang Rakheswar Brahma also welcomed the move.


Rihan daimari ,Minister PHE declared that the programme would be held every year in the month of March and the student and children even from the remotest areas of the district would be exposed to the latest developments in science & technology.Later in his presidential address DC Meenakshi Sundaram remarked that he would be very happy to arrange such an event for the benefit of children of the district.He also said that Aryabhatta Science centres established in each development blocks of the district namely-Kalaigaon, Khoirabari,Bhergaon,Udalguri,Rowta and Mazbat under the supervision of ASTEC had been working fast for making science popular among children.


A high level committee was formed to organise the book fair & science exhibition with Rihan daimari,Minister, PHE Assam as chief patron,all Ems and MLAs of the district as the patrons, DC, Udalguri as the chairman, SP,Udalguri as the vice chairman; ADC PK Mahanta as the secretary and PD MK Sarma as the treasurer. Another 15 sub-committees were also formed with ADC,SDO, Circle Officers and BDOs as the convenors. A press meet had also been addressed by the Minister and DC later in the circuit house in the evening. The DC made it clear that all schools of the district must take part in the science model exhibition and principals or headmasters would be responsible if they fail to exhibit models from their schools. He also said that interaction session with top scientists would be arranged for the students during the programme.

Protesting against sharp price rise of essential commodities in the country,more than five hundred people mostly woman staged dharna in front of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office today on September 2 at 11 am on the day of Bharat Bandh.The protesters blocked the main gate of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office preventing government officials and employees including Additional Deputy Commissioner Udalguri.
