Guwahati: Cholera epidemic has broken out in North Eastern ProvinceAssam’s capital city Guwahati, confirms Principal of Guwahati Medical College Hospital Dr. M M Deka on Sunday. Previously it has been suspected as Diarrhoea after at least 20 people were suddenly fell ill complaining severe dejections, stomach pain, vomiting and were admitted into different city hospitals. Immediately samples of stools were collected from the patients and sent to Mahendra Mohan Choudhury hospital laboratory where pathologists found stains of vibrio cholerae ogawa in four samples. All four people hail from Uzanbazaar Padum Phukhuri area, where this outbreak has been reported first. A nine year old child Sunil Basphor and a 45 year old lady Rumi Hazarika died in the hospital on last Wednesday following the infection. Residents of the locality have been suffered from this ailment since 22nd of this month. On Saturday Koilashpoti Singh (75) also from the same locality died in GMCH increasing the number of deaths to three. Cases have been reported from the Beltola area also.

At least eight persons sustained injury when a powerful IED exploded blast in Udalgiri district on Tuesday. The explosion took place at a 'Raas-leela' pandal at around 8 in the evening. The four injured were rushed to a local hospital where condition of two is stated to be serious. The blast took place just few metres away from Udalgiri police station and the bus stand. No militant group has so far taken responsibility for the blast.

Newspapers hawkers have called off the strike on Tuesday. The development came up after they struck fresh deal with the agents. For the last three days, news papers did not reach the homes of the city's readers for the third consecutive day on Sunday and Monday as hawkers continued their indefinite strike over a dispute with newspaper distributing agencies on payment.
The advertisement, issued in some local papers on November 29, had said hawkers were not making payments by claiming that customers were not paying their bills at the end of the month.
