Crucial AGP meet on 29th of August
Guwahati : A crucial general conference meeting of the Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) will be held with a three-day programme from August 29 to elect a new President and its Executives for coming session at the Pragjyoti ITA Centre for Performing Arts in Guwahati. This meeting is overdue as sitting President Brindavan Goswami is going to complete his three year term on 31st of August. Election Commission of India has already notified AGP to hold conference to select new President and Executive committee. But the party has yet to overcome some crucial hurdles as one third of its district committee and anchaliks are yet to hold their conferences and select new executive committee. It is mandatory to hold all district and anchalik conferences and select new executive before central committees sitting. Out of the 50 district committees, 34 have completed their conference process so far and the rest are expected to complete the process before 29th. AGP's youth wing Yuva Parishad will hold its conference on August 28. Around five hundred delegates from district comities and frontal organizations are likely to take part in the conference besides party MLAs, MPs and the members of its outgoing central executive committee. Earlier conference where Goswami was elected as the party chief was held at Tezpur in 2004.
