Bharattnatyam workshop concluded at Nagaon

Antara Kala Kendra, one of the leading classical dance academy of Nagaon organized 4 days summer workshop on Bharatnatyam , under the sponsorship of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi from July 10 to 14 July. More than 70 students from different parts of the district participated in the workshop,got the blessings of India’s prominent Bharatnatyam exponent Padmashri awardee Dr.Saroja Vaidyanathan of New Delhi, who visited the workshop as an invited facaulty. Vaidyanathan presented some advanced steps of the dance. Moreover, the principal of Antara Kala Kendra Mandira Bhattacharjya also showed the steps to the workshop participants.


In the inauguration ceremony of the workshop, Saroja Vaidyanathan lightened the earthen lamp at Kala Mandir auditorium in Nagaon. Talking to media, Vaidyanathan told that she felt very happy with the workshop participants, as they have showed good performance in a very short time on the new steps shown by her. Vaidyanathan appreciated Antara Kala Kendra for their effort in popularizing this dance in the northeastern part of India.


“ Now–a-days the children are found to groove more with western or Bollywood beats. But our aim is to make the younger generation aware about the values of the classical dances of India. So Antara Kala Kendra has chosen to organized a workshop on Bharatnatyaam”, as state by Mandira Bhattacharjya. She also informed the media that Antara Kala Kendra is also organizing a Xatriya Dance Workshop from 18th of this month.


On the evening of the 14th July, the workshop participants performed Bharatnatyaam dance in the cultural programme, which was held at Kala Mandir premises in Nagaon. The performances by the budding dancers enthralled the audience for more than two hours. The programme concluded with the presentation of certificates to all workshop participants and the well wishes of Saroja Vaidyanathan. The audience greatly appreciated the organizing committee.
