With the durga puja round the corner, the different durga puja committees across the town are in the midst of creating colorful pandals and the famous structures. The Nagaon Bengali Sanmilani, one of the oldest organizations of Nagaon gearing up for Puja Celebration. More than 30 numbers of artisans from Kolkata have been engaged to decorate the puja pandal which is almost complete. According to the celebration committee, the artistes from Kolkata have completed all the idols and the pandal would be completed within a day. Dipok Debnath, the secretary of the organizing committee while talking to Eastern Chronicle told that the committee has been organizing and celebrating the festival since 1892. “We hope that our pandal would definitely attract a huge crowd and hope for a peaceful completion of the festival.
It is to mention that Nagaon Bengali Sanmilani has been maintaining the ancient customs since from its beginning which is witnessed at the day of Dashami when the devotees and the members of the organizing committee on their bare feet carry the Maa Durga along with other idols on their shoulder to the river bank.
The rainfall for past three days hampered the progress of decoration works as well dampened the festive sprit. The people were worried about the water logging in the streets for the rain but the change in weather again supplied sprit to this festive season. Special security arrangements have made by the police in the district. CRPF personnel would be deployed to avoid any kind of untoward incident.
