Cultural Function of Assam by Assam Association of Mumbai

The Assam Association, Mumbai organizes a cultural
function of traditional Assamese music and dance to be
performed by reputed artists specially invited from Assam
on Sunday 23rd September 2007 at Assam Bhawan,
Vashi, from 4 pm to 7 pm. Those cultural items were
created by Sri Sri Sankardeva, the greatest cultural and
social reformer of NE India.
On this occasion, the association takes the pleasure to
invite you and your associates/journalists to make this

It was very nice to get the news about the celebration of greatest saint of Asom Srimanta Sankardev, who was the founder of basic culture and peace in Assam, which is still followed to maintain our strong history.

Dergaon: Woman killed in police-public clash

A woman was killed and several others were injured as police men from the Dergaon based Police Training College clashed with local people. The clash began initially with as few businessmen and later it spilled to the local people who have blocked the National Highway 37. This has made thousands of vehicles remain stranded. Nalbari: 100 ailing after taking botched gram

More than 100 people have fallen ill after they consumed botched gram at a function at Aarikuchi on Tuesday in Nalbari district. Thirteen seriously ailing people have been admitted to the Nalbari Civil Hospital while some others are undergoing treatment at the make shift camp being set up in the area. Details are awaited.

2 arrested for looting cash from SBI customer

Police have arrested two youths in Morigaon after they looted more than Rs 77,000 in cash from a State Bank of India branch on Wednesday.According to information, the two youths namely Amal and Munna from Rangiya snatched Rs 77,430 in cash from an employee of the Assam State Electricity Board who was three in the queue to deposit it. But they left the spot immediately after the incident. later people saw them loitering near the bank and caught, assaulted and later handed over to the police. Investigation is going on.

Ripun Bora remanded to 3 days police custody

A CBI special court on Wednesday has remanded sacked Assam education minister, his associates Ramesh Maheswai to three days police custody while CBI prayed for more time to investigate the case relating to his attempt to hush up a murder case by offering a hefty Rs 10 lakh bribe. Scribe Mumul Pathak who was also arrested with Bora was remanded to 2 days transit custody after hearing the case at around 12 noon.

10 NSCN(U) cadres killed in Dimapur gunbattle

More than ten NSCN(U) caders were killed at a fierce fighting between NSCM(IM) and its rival NSCN(U) cadres early on Wednesday morning in Dimapur.According to information, the gun battle was running for nearly six hours took place Seithama area near Dimapur in nagaland.NSCN (IM) cadres have claimed that they have killed these cadres in the battle and that they seized a huge cache of arms and ammunitions.Police have yet to ascertain the identity of the dead cadres but NSCN(I-M) claimed that they had killed 10 activists from the rival group. The Central Bureau of Investigation is all set to produce former education minister Ripun Bora, scribe Mukul Pathak and businessman Ramsh Maheswai in the Patiala court, New Delhi on Wednesday.According to information, the CBI will the remand of the three people citing further investigation. In a major embarrassment for the Tarun Gogoi Government, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested education minister Ripun Bora from his Delhi based residence on Tuesday along with two others. They are namely Mukul Pathak, a journalist with a vernacular daily and a businessman Ramesh Maheswari.
