Cultural Function of Assam by Assam Association of Mumbai

The Assam Association, Mumbai organizes a cultural
function of traditional Assamese music and dance to be
performed by reputed artists specially invited from Assam
on Sunday 23rd September 2007 at Assam Bhawan,
Vashi, from 4 pm to 7 pm. Those cultural items were
created by Sri Sri Sankardeva, the greatest cultural and
social reformer of NE India.
On this occasion, the association takes the pleasure to
invite you and your associates/journalists to make this

It was very nice to get the news about the celebration of greatest saint of Asom Srimanta Sankardev, who was the founder of basic culture and peace in Assam, which is still followed to maintain our strong history.

New norms for construction in Guwahati

Probe PC Ram case afresh: Court tells CBI

A special court in Guwahati has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation to institute a fresh probe into the PC Ram killing case. The order was issued on Friday a day after the son of the FCI executive director moved the court alleging that the charge-sheet filed in the case was incomplete. Ram’s son in his petition raised doubts over CBI’s sincerity alleging that the investigation has failed to unearth the truth and that no one has been named in the charge-sheet. Action against unauthorized industries near KNP!

The National Green Tribunal has asked the ministry of environment and forests to step up action against the unauthorized industrial units operating in the No Development Zone around the Kaziranga National Park in Assam. The Tribunal, however, asked the ministry to obtain its prior permission before taking any coercive action against three tea processing units operating within the No Development Zone near Numaligarh Refinery near the Kaziranga park, which is home to the largest population of one-horned rhinoceros. 5 insurgent activists arrested in Guwahati

Security forces arrested five UNLF militants from Jorabat area in the city on Friday. The militants were travelling in a car from Aizawl in Mizoram to Guwahati when the police and CRPF personnel intercepted them. Another UNLF cadre was picked up from Paltan Bazar area in the city on the basis of confessional statements of an arrested person.The arrested militants were identified as Warren alias Hitler, Waikhom Robinson, Samjet Sabam Laiteng, Lallawmpuia Champai and Moirangtham Joy alias Robin, the police said.According to police, the arrest suggest that Guwahati has become a gateway to the insurgent elements in North eastern region.

Rail blockade hits train services

Train services on Friday remained heavily affected with several trains, including the New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express, detained following the indefinite rail blockade called from by the All-Assam Bodo Joint Action Committee for Bodoland movement.Thousands of picketers squatted on rail tracks at Bhatkuchi near Rangiya station, Kokrajhar and Gossaigaon since 5 in the morning demanding Bodoland.The Rajdhani Express was detained at Rangiya. The other affected trains include Brahmaputra Mail, North East Express, Kamrup Express, Saraighat Express and Manas-Rhino Passenger.

Grover shooting for Mohibul’s first Hindi film

Gulshan Grover is busy with film shooting in Assam to work with an Assamese political leader. Annual plan outlay inadequate: Mahanta

Asom Gana Parishad president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta on Thursday charged Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi with resorting to blatant lies on the annual play outlay for 2012-2013 recently fixed in New Delhi. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati Mahanta, the two time former Chief Minister said that the amount is meager compared to many other states. He further alleged gross misappropriation of planning commission funds during the Tarun Gogoi tenure. The regional party further has written to petroleum minister S Jaipal Reddy demanding an inquiry into the LPG crisis that grips Assam.

Mahanta hints at support to Sangma

Asom Gana Parishad on Thursday backed NCP leader PA Sangma in the presidential polls slated for July. Talking to reporter in Guwahati on Thursday, party president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said that they would back a tribal from the north east as President. Mahanta, the two time former Assam chief minister told reporters that no formal decision has been taken and that the picture would emerge when the poll notification would be issued. AGP has one member in Lok Sabha and two in Rajya Sabha, besides 10 MLAs in Assam assembly.

Gadapani case: KLO leader arrested

Police on Thursday arrested a KLO member charging him with kidnapping and murdering Gadapani Pathak last month. The KLO leader was identified as Putul Ray from Aagomoni area who allegedly killed the agriculture department superintendent engineer in Boitamari on May 2 when he was travelling with an executive engineer Faizur Islam.
