People from Assam, who have made Kuwait their second home, are all set to celebrate Rongali Bihu this year with even more fanfare than ever before, under the aegis of Asom Association Kuwait, which was established and registered with the Indian Embassy, Kuwait, in 2009. This Organization formalized the celebration of Bihu in the State of Kuwait, and became instrumental in showcasing the rich culture & tradition of Assam. In the 3rd AGM held on 12th February 2011, a new Executive Committee was formed with Sri Anup Bora as Hony. President and Sri Bijan Goswami as Hony. General Secretary, to lead the activities of organization through the year 2011-12.
Over the past few years, the Assamese community in Kuwait had the opportunity to enjoy the enthralling performances by the likes of Zubin Garg and Manas Robin, who brought lot of glitz and color to the festivities here in in this part of the middle-east. This year the community is all set to sway to the music and melodies of yet another great singer from Assam – Shmti. Shanta Uzir. She will be accompanied by her Music Composer husband Sh. Bhupen Uzir. The cultural evening set for the 13th May, will be enriched by her Bihu songs along with her other famous hits. The venue for the ‘Shanta Uzir Nite’ will be the famous “Al Murjan” Banquet hall of “Hotel Crowne Plaza”, where performances from the local Assamese community will add variety, color and enthusiasm amongst the community.
Earlier, the onset of Bohag was celebrated by the Assamese community here by organizing a day long festivities of ‘Khel-dhemali’ and ‘ Bhoj’ in the Fintas Park, located in Mahboula, Kuwait. Members along with their children participated in the fun games and contests and the winners were suitably awarded with prizes and gifts.
Among the notable fresh initiatives of the Asom Association Kuwait, was the formal launch of a website www.kuwaitotasom.com to showcase and highlight the activities of the Organization. Members have enthusiastically responded by making this virtual forum a window to all that the organization stands for. Appropriately, the Assamese community has strived to create what the name of the website suggests Kuwait-ot-asom i.e an Assam in Kuwait.
The United Liberation Front of Asom has denied its grenade attack on its expelled and pro talk leader Jiten Dutta. In a statement e-mailed to the media ULFA central publicity cell member Anjan Bothakur said its nothing but a drama sharply played by Dutta only to get more security coverage from the government.It may be noted that Dutta as attacked with grenade on November 13 at Dikom.
Police has booked arrested one Pabitra Boro, an NDFB cadre for parking the Maruti-800 at Panbazar before it exploded on October 30.It is revealed that in its initial investigation, SIT has identified the main culprit behind the serial blast in Guwahati and some other places in lower Assam. Thungri Boro is one of them. Those who helped Thungri carry out his plan include driver Dinesh Boro, Tarun Boro and Tens Narzary. More than 25 persons, including seven children, injured as the mini-bus they were travelling overturned at Bijoynagar Kamrup district on Wednesday morning .According to information, the vehicle travelling from Chaygaon to Guwahati turned turtle at about 10 am when the driver lost control on NH-37. The injured people were admitted to hospitals in Chaygaon and Bijoynagar. The condition of five injured persons were stated to be serious.
