KSA protests corruption and delaying for implementation of 244 (A)

The Karbi Students’ Association (KAS) has been continuing its hunger strike since past weekend in several places in the district. Today too, a sit-in-sit hunger strike was demonstrated by KSA, Bakaliaghat district committee in front of the Phulani ARO Circle office demanding CBI enquiry against the corruption that happening in every department under KAAC. Besides, the student body demanded unconditional provincialization of Assam Venture Educational Institutions, implementation of Article 244(A) and demanded the government to stop the clause 8 of BLT Accord, 2003. While, briefing the reporters, Laison Engleng, President, KSA alleged that massive funds of social development have been corrupted by the twine Congress led KAAC and Dima Hasao Autonomous Council. He reiterated that the student organization will intensify stern agitation against the corruption and the student body will pressurize for CBI enquiry against the corrupted, EMS, MLAS and MP, the student leader Engleng added.


On the other hand, reacting on the land deal with Bangladesh, the student leader aggressively criticized and said that Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi has no moral rights to hold the CM post and Gogoi should resign from the charge of CM immediately.


Speaking on the Autonomous State demand, the student leader Engleng said that domination, manipulation and suppression policy etc has become the common agenda for the State government. Congress Government is now trying to dampen the long standing demand of Karbi people which is legitimate rights of Karbi people to attain the Autonomous State under Article 244(A) of the constitution.


He further said that the Autonomous State under Article 244 (A) within the State of Assam is a national commitment in the floor of the parliament in 1971. Despite, the state government instead of giving importance on the demand of Karbi people, Tarun Gogoi commented adversely on the national demand of hill tribes which is very unfortunate, the student leader said with grieved.


Meanwhile, reacting against the provincialization of Service Bill, 2011 that announced by the Education Minister, Hemanta Biswa Sharma, is not suitable for backward hill tribes. Hence, KSA demanded modification for the greater interest of the backward hill tribes, Englenf said.


Besides, the KAS demanded the government not to implement clause-8 of BLT accord. If government decides to implement the BLT accord clause-8 then government should implement first the article 244(A) which is the long standing demand of Karbi people, the student leader revealed.

Under the basis of specific information, a joint operation was conducted by 16 Dogra Regiment and Assam police on Sunday at Mahamaya and Panjuri area of Karbi Anglong district under the Dokmoka police station. During the operation, one AK 56, one magazine, 67 numbers of live ammunitions, three numbers of demand letters and one receipt book buried underground by NDFB militant was recovered from Mahamaya.
