'Bhut jolokia is the world's hottest chilli

New Delhi: We all remember it. The moms and the aita’s used to talk about it in the kitchen. “Bhut jolokia or 'ghost chillies' of Tezpur figure has found a mention in the Time Magazine's latest issue as the world's hottest chilli.
The magazine's cover story that takes a look at the culinary specialities and peculiarities around the world has zeroed in on the burnt orange pods, developed in a military laboratory in Tezpur, as packing the deadliest punch.

The article on 'Global Warming' notes that the bhut jolokia, also called the Naga chilli, carries the sort of heat that one normally would find only in the hottest chilli sauces made from pure pepper extract.

As you have mentioned that Naga -Chili is developed at DRL , Tezpur , rather it has been tested there and claimed for the first time that it is the world's hottest chili. Finally New Maxico state University( Chile Pepper Institute ) brought it into lime light.

The BHUT of Bhut Jalakia is not GHOST. It is actually BHOOT meaning Hill Peaple of North, specifically the people of present day Arunachal Pradesh. And the name Naga Chili is seldom used.

In tezpur we call it "Bih Jalokia".....everybody says it this way....

Bhut jolokia/naga jolokia is the future crop of the north east. We are doing commercial bhut jolokia cultivation at various site of Assam.

BHUT of bhut jolokia meaning ghost (READERS DIGEST)??.. A BIT CONFUSING. Anyway this is one of the profitable crop for our farmers. ASSAM BHOOT JOLOKIA should get GSI.

We should immediately apply for GI or else we will lose. This is an indigeneous product and only Assam should benifit. We should encourage only son of soil Assamese growers, promoters and buyers. Same with Joha.

when I was Sr.Manager of a Tea garden in upper assam I used the pickle of bhoot jolokia rather the oil to deter Green leaf theives (which was a menacein upper Assam gardens)on my own way and got the tittle "Jolokia sahab" from the villegers.Stil we are growing in our kitchen garden and best use the pickle during summer.

I was at TGIF last eve & had my first opportunity to taste Red JOLOKIA Paste on my chicken wings, though it won me a free pint but I am definitely not going to repeat that. However would like to try out green Jolokia sometime.

New Assam Governor to be finalised today

Major General (Retd) Nirmal Chandra Vij is all set to be the new Assam Governor. The formal decision will come up on Saturday's Congress Working Committee meeting in New Delhi. According to reliable sources in the national capital, the home ministry has a list of a few others to be named for the post. They include former Union home secretary V K Duggal, NN Vora, Major General (Retd) S Padmanabhan. But the Assam Government is reportedly in favour of an apolitical Governor. Dhemaji flood situation unchanged; alert in Dihiri Holdunga

The flood situation in north Assam’s Dhemaji district is remaining unchanged. It could be deteriorating further in view of the continuing rains that have been lashing the district for the last several hours. Flood hits Dhemaji as Jiadhal breaches embankment

The first wave of flood waters are surging in Upper Assam's Dhemaji district affecting hundreds of families early on Wednesday morning. The situation started deteriorating as the river Jiadhal has breached a portion of the embankment measuring around 20 meters. This has forced as many as 300 families to leave their houses. More areas are set to come under the surging waters as the incessant rains are continuing. According to information, the NH 52 is closing on Wednesday following rising water level in Kumotia river. The water level is rising following the incessent rains from Arunachal Pradesh over topping the national highway. The road is being repaired by the Border Roads Organisation.
