New Delhi: We all remember it. The moms and the aita’s used to talk about it in the kitchen. “Bhut jolokia or 'ghost chillies' of Tezpur figure has found a mention in the Time Magazine's latest issue as the world's hottest chilli. The magazine's cover story that takes a look at the culinary specialities and peculiarities around the world has zeroed in on the burnt orange pods, developed in a military laboratory in Tezpur, as packing the deadliest punch.
The article on 'Global Warming' notes that the bhut jolokia, also called the Naga chilli, carries the sort of heat that one normally would find only in the hottest chilli sauces made from pure pepper extract.

As you have mentioned that Naga -Chili is developed at DRL , Tezpur , rather it has been tested there and claimed for the first time that it is the world's hottest chili. Finally New Maxico state University( Chile Pepper Institute ) brought it into lime light.
The BHUT of Bhut Jalakia is not GHOST. It is actually BHOOT meaning Hill Peaple of North, specifically the people of present day Arunachal Pradesh. And the name Naga Chili is seldom used.

BHUT of bhut jolokia meaning ghost (READERS DIGEST)??.. A BIT CONFUSING. Anyway this is one of the profitable crop for our farmers. ASSAM BHOOT JOLOKIA should get GSI.

We should immediately apply for GI or else we will lose. This is an indigeneous product and only Assam should benifit. We should encourage only son of soil Assamese growers, promoters and buyers.

when I was Sr.Manager of a Tea garden in upper assam I used the pickle of bhoot jolokia rather the oil to deter Green leaf theives (which was a menacein upper Assam gardens)on my own way and got the tittle "Jolokia sahab" from the villegers.Stil we are growing in our kitchen garden and best use the pickle during summer.

I was at TGIF last eve & had my first opportunity to taste Red JOLOKIA Paste on my chicken wings, though it won me a free pint but I am definitely not going to repeat that. However would like to try out green Jolokia sometime.
Majuli, the Asia's largest river island faces a serious threat of being washed away. Days are not far if urgent treatment continues to elude. According to information, as many as 72 villages in Majuli have been submerged by the flood waters. The surging waters of the mighty Brahmaputra threaten to ravage the historic vaishnative monastery of Kamalabari. Many roads in the island have been submerged. Yet another mid air mishap was averted in Guwahati on Saturday. An Indian Air Force aircraft on Saturday made a 'delayed landing' at the Lokpriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. But according to defence sources, there was no technical problem in the craft.
The IL-76 'Gajraj' aircraft, flying to Delhi from Bangalore via Guwahati, developed "certain problems mid-air and made a delayed landing as necessary arrangements were made on the ground in case there was emergency. The aircraft circled over the airport for nearly two hours before landing. Airport Authority of India made the arrangements for the landing and to deal with any emergency.
