Ali-ai-Ligang is celebrated in Sivasagar district

Ali Ai Ligang the vibrant agricultural festival of Mishing tribes of Assam is celebrated in many places of Sivasagar district on Wednesday. The Sivasagar Bangke-Mishing-Dirbi-Kebang and Ali-ai-Ligang celebration committee observed the festival at Taxi Ali, near Sivasagar town. Along with the rituals, Anunitom and Oinitom competition were held. The open session was presided by Lalit Kumar Kuli, in which Nahendra Padun attended as asserted speaker. In this meeting newly elected president and executive member of All India SC/ST employees welfare association of ONGC was felicitated. In Nazira Sub-division the festival was celebrated in Santak Bor-Mishing gaon and Hatipoti Mishing gaon with day long programs.

Lucky escape for bike rider in major accident at Simoluguri

The proverb, “Third time lucky” is completely proved in a dangerous road accident today near the Simoluguri police station, of Sivasagar district. The bike rider's life is saved fortunately. The accident is occuered at about 2 p.m, on Tuesday - a Honda CR100 motor cycle (AS-04-E-4440) entered near the back wheels of the Sivasagar-Sonari bound 709 mini bus (AS-04-B-3438). the bike is badly damaged. Centre sanctioned 3600 core for BVFCL

After continuous demand and discussion the Namrup based Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Ltd will receive rupees 3600 core allocation from the union government. A new urea production unit with 8.64 lakh ton capacity will be installed in this unit. This is disclosed by a high level official of the ministry of Fertilizer at Delhi. Tantric cheats woman at Boniabari, Sivasagar

Great sensation is created at Boniabari, Sivasagar when one tantric Md. Abdul Wahar in pretext of treatment came into the house of a woman and raped her. A case has been registered at the Sivasagar police station in this connection. The culprit is from Nagaon district and lived in Boniabari area for the past few years. The tantric is now absconding.

State level workshop on Geography at Moran College

Folk-artist Mahendra Handique passes away

Dedicated folk-artist of Assamese culture, famous Dhul player and a follower of Vaishnovite religion, an upper division employee of ONGC, Mahendra Handique died in his home at Borborua-Handique gaon, Nazira, at an age of 83. Late Handique has left behind his three sons and three daughters.

Fraudster aiming to loot crores arrested at Sivasagar

Sivasagar police arrested one Fakoruddin Laskar from Silchar on charges of forgery. Laskar, a coal trader and his colleagues were trying to withdraw rupees 2.80 crore from the Sivasagar ONGC branch of SBI fraudulently. The modus operandi was to open an account in his name in that branch and deposit a cheque of high value same day. His victim was Indian Institute of Pulses and Research, Nagpur, Maharashtra. The alert Manager checked his bank account for clearance and asked Laskar to attend the branch office.
