Arsenic which is formed in heavy quality in the ground level water of Sivasagar and Nazira makes the people worry. Now the Govt. is trying to create awareness among the people and take some preventive measures.
Under the guidelines of ‘National Rural Drinking water quality monitoring and survillance programme the Public Health and Enginerring Department of Sivasagar and Nazira is conducting a few awareness camps in different places.
At Santak and Bihubor where two water project were sealed by the PHED Nazira for presence of heavy quantity of arsenic. Govt. is now planning to setup a arsenic -tretment plant there.

Sivasagar district: In Sivsagar constituency INC candidate Pranab Gogoi defeted his rival AGP candidate Ramu Chaliha by 17 thousand votes. In Nazira constituency INC candidate Debobrat Saikia defeted his rival of CPI Durpad Borgohain around 30 thousand votes. INC candidate anjan dutta won by 327 votes defeating nearest rival AGP candidate Pradip Hazarika in Amguri.
In Thoura LAC Sushanta Borgohain, Sarat Borkakoti at Charaideo LAC and Sarat Saikia at Mahmora LAC won - all INC candidates.
