Tai cultural workshop at Bokota
Tai Ahom Development Council, in association with Siu-Ka-Pha Tai Cultural Centre of Bokota is running a 15-days workshop at Purbojyoti Club of Bokota-Parijat of Sivasagar district from February 19 to March 3. about 35 students from Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Golaghat and Sivasagar district are joining the workshop. Nabin Mohan, Sushil Mohan, Tilo Hatibarua are joining the workshop as trainers.

Nazira district and Namti regional Koch Rajbonshi Sonmiloni jointly observed the 502nd birthday of Chilarai at Udaipur M.E. School, Namti on February 7. The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested ONGC’s civil wing General Manager P K Bora charging him with taking bribe from a contractor in his office. Before that an eleven-member CBI team from Guwahati had arrived in Sivasagar and probed the bribery allegations leveled by a contractor, Chanchal Konwar. Bora allegedly had demanded bribe for his bills to be passed for work done. The CBI team headed by DSP Zamang recovered cash 80,000 from the possession of Bora.

This festival is related with the supreme deliverance of lord Buddha. A case of gang rape of a newly married woman is registered at Sonari police station of Sivasagar district . According to police, the victim, a labour of Joboka T.E. was gang raped by six culprits when she returned from work on January 29.
