Sarba Siksha Abhijan (SSA) Nagaon in collaboration with UNICEF Assam organized One Day Non Residential Training Programme for Training of Trainers (ToT) on School Sanitation and Hygiene Education (SSHE) at Tourist Loodge on 12th April 2012. The training was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon Sri Abitab Rajkhowa, ACS and said District Resource Group (DRG) members consists of DIET -10 nos(Faculties including the Block In-charges), BTC – 5 nos (Faculties), Normal School–5 nos(Faculties),SSA – 10 nos. (District & Block Offices), Expert Teachers – 5 nos will be trained today by our Resource Persons. Sri. K.K Baruah, AES, District Elementary Education Officer welcomed all the participants and stated the objectives of ToT.
District Media Expert, National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) Nagaon Maruf Alom participated as resource person in the training. In the technical session he pointed out impertinence of School Sanitation and Hygiene. Quoting 2011 census data Mr Alom said 60 per cent of village households still do not have access to proper toilet facilities in the country and in India more people have a mobile phone than a household toilet.
Speaking to the participants Mrs. D Choudhury UNICEF Assam consultant informed SSHE programme has been started only in 8 districts of Assam. i.e Nagaon , Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, , Morigaon, Nalbari and Barpeta in the 1st quarter. For the smooth implementation of the SSHE programme it is important to train the district level functionaries on SSHE matters for better implementation of the programme so a DRG is constituted in the district added Mr H Goswami, programme officer, SSA, Nagaon.
More and more serious allegations seemed to have surfaced against MLA Jiten Gogoi. The independent MLA from Bokakhat allegedly unleashed terror at the residence of an AGP leader on Friday. According to information, the surrendered ULFA rebel went to the yard of AGP leader Girin Gogoi on Friday evening and warned that he would shoot him dead. Not only that an angry Gogoi unleashed terror with blank-firing before leaving the spot. The reason is yet to be ascertained. The incident took place a day after police registered a case against Gogoi charging him with assaulting a woman who undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Golaghat organized a self help group mela at the New Jail Market, Golaghat. As many as 30 nos. of SHGs of different development blocks of the district took part in the event. The main object of the mela was to promote the Assamese traditional items made by different SHG groups during the festival time.

M Firoz Ahmed is a Wildlife Biologist associated with Aaranyak, has been awarded the prestigious Carl Zeiss Wildlife Conservation Award 2011 in a function held recently in the India Habitat Center, New Delhi. The award consists of a memento and an envious Zeiss binocular.
Firoz is associated with Aaranyak since 1994, where he developed the research division for amphibians and reptiles and currently developing the tiger research and Conservation Initiative. Firoz has been working on lesser known amphibians and reptiles since 1997 and discovered new species of frogs. He also has a PhD degree on tree frogs of Northeast India.
