As many as thirteen people have been killed, about two hundred injured on Saturday while some Adivasi people clashed with the local residents in the city’s Beltola area forcing the authorities to impose curfew in Ganeshguri and Dispur and then to Khanapara.
According to police, the clash began as soon as some ten thousand Adivasi people, armed with bows and arrows were taking out a processing towards the Capital complex demanding schedule tribe status. Some of them turned violent and started attacking the local residents.
They vandalized some shops, markets and damaged more than one hundred vehicles. The passengers inside the city buses plying on the Dispur Basistha areaare not also spared.
The irate mob of the local resident came out and sprang into action with retaliatory attack. Some other Adivasi people proceeded towards Ganeshguri areas and forced the businessmen to close the shops and hotels.
Five people were left spot dead while seven others died on the way to hospital. The injured people have been rushed to the hospital. Twenty five people are languishing in the hispital in critical condition.
A complete disorder were on display with dead bodies lying unattended, seriously injured people groaning to look for help. Damaged vehicles were abandoned and materials of shops and hotels lying scattered on the streets.
The authorities fanned police and para military forces in the area and later dispersed the irate Adivasi men from the spot. But the local residents continued retaliation. Police and para military troops are patrolling in the entire city to restore normalcy
