The Assam government’s repeated denial of the presence of fundamentalist forces in the state has proved a wrong one with the police arresting an ISI kingpin in the city on Saturday.
Speaking to a private TV channel, former Assam Chief Ministerand Pragatisheel Asom Gana Parishad president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta has said the arrest has once again proved the utter failure of the Tarun Government’s failure on the law and order front.
Mr Mahanta said ISI and other fundamentalist forces are still at work to foment trouble in the north eastern region due to a frail and weak law and order situation in the state. "Its the failure of the of the state intelligence agencies is as clear as broad day light," he sad.
The former Chief Minister further alleged that ISI and other fundamentalist forces have been camping in the many places of Assam aiming at striking in the state with sabotage plan.
Police on Monday arrested the tenth molester involved in the Guwahati incident. Identified Dipak Dey, he was arrested from Hatigaon. Earlier Deva Das was arrested from Guwahati on Monday night.He was arrested hours after the eighth molester was captured at Mukalmuwa in Nalbari district. With this, the number of molesters arrested in this connection has gone up to 9. He was indentified as Rupkanta Kalita. Search operations are on in Guwahati and nearby areas, including Meghalaya where the other three other main accused may have taken refuge.
A leading businessman was injured at an incident of shoot out in Guwahati on Monday. The incident took place at 11 at night at Fancybazar where the businessman Rajesh Paul was on his way back to his Lalganesh based residence. Unidentified miscreants fired at him leaving him injured on the spot. Police rushed to the spot and he was rushed to the hospital. Investigation is going on.

Police on Monday arrested another accused in the molestation of a girl outside a pub here taking the number of those apprehended in the case to eight. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday expressed strong displeasure over the role of a local news channel journalist in the molestation case. Talking to reporters outside the Assam assembly on Monday, he called it a case of unethical journalism saying that he should have informed police as soon as possible.
