Durga puja celebrated at Kalaigaon

People belonging to all communities of the society peacefully enjoyed Durga Puja festival in and around Kalaigaon. Taking advantage of good weather thousands visited 22 Puja pandals each day.On the concluding day on Bijoya Dashami 14 nos of idols of Dura had been immersed at Singrimari ghat of Noa river. Dinamoni Das, Circle Officer,Kalaigaon Revenue Circle along with Additional SP,Udalguri;Officer-in-Charge,Kalaigaon Police Station;Kamal Prasad Sarma,Mouzadar,Kalaigaon supervised the immersion of the idols. Thaneswar Malakar,DC,Udalguri also visited the site. On the occasion he discussed a few social problems of Kalaigaon town with a few leading citizens.The DC also paid a visit to ISKON temple of Kalaigaon.It needs mention that three Puja pandals namely- Singrimari tea garden, Janakalyan Samaj of Singrimari and Kalaigaon Cosmopolitan Puja near Kalaigaon Secondary School could draw attention of thousands on each day. The live idols of Durga, Laxmi,Saraswati, Kartik,Ganesh, Mahisasur and the lion of Durga performed by the members of Janakalyan Samaj had been the star attraction of the Vijoya Dashami at Kalaigaon.

Mousumi Baruah of National Pioneer Junior College,Tangla has brought glory to Udalguri district securing 8th rank in the HS (Arts) examination by scoring 471 marks. Baby wild tusker succums to injury in Udalguri

A badly injured six years old wild tusker has succumbed to death yesterday evening on May 23 after battling for life since May 18 at Ganeshghat village in Udalguri district.The injured wild tusker had been very weak while entering the remote village near Majuli tea garden with other two wild elephants on May 18.Villagers could see several injury marks on its body and blood was seen oozing out from a deep injury on its fore head.Unable to cross a small stream, the tusker fell to the bottom of the streamlet. BPF sweeps all four LACs in Udalguri district

BPF has won all the assembly seats in Udalguri district.In 65 Kalaigaon LAC,BPF candidate and former MLA Maheswar Boro has been elected to Assam assembly by defeating nearest AIUDF candidate Natu Ram Boro by 17,638 votes.Maheswar Boro (BPF) bagged 47,203 votes while Nathu Ram Boro (AIUDF) got 29,565 votes.Sitting AGP MLA Mukunda Ram Choudhury remained in third place with 24,286 votes only. Patrolling teams of Mazbat forest Range Office, under Dhansiri Forest Division, Udalguri and Army stationed at Mazbat successfully rescued an endangered pair of baby Himalayan bear calves recently near Assam-Arunachal border. Udalguri ready for counting of votes

Udalguri District Election Office has been ready for counting of votes on May 19 for three assembly constituencies namely-64 Paneri,69 Udalguri (ST) and 70 Mazbat.Talking to media ND Pathak,District Election Officer,Udalguri said that there would be 12 rounds of counting of votes on 14 tables in each three LACs. Udalguri players won gold for India

People of Udalguri have much to rejoice with the good news of winning 4 gold and 1 silver by 3 girls and two boys from Udalguri representaing India in the first ever international event of Wushu held in Colombo in Sri Lanka from April 16 to April 18. The five member team participated in the 2nd Students’ Olympic International Martial Art event and clinched four gold and one silver medal in the international event.
