Guwahati Doordarshan Kendra, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Agriculture, Assam and Assam Agricultural University(AAU) has organized an interaction programme between farmers and agricultural scientists/ officers in the form of Crop Seminar, held at Horticultural Research Station(HRS), AAU, Kahikuchi on Saturday, which was telecast live on DD-1 and DD-13. The programme was inaugurated by Timothy Das Hanse, Director, Horticulture and Food Processing, Assam and highlighted the importance of modern horticultural activities in present agricultural scenario.


In this connection, lighting of the lamp was done jointly by Timothy Das Hanse and C. Lalrosanga , Additional Director General (P), NER, Doordarshan. In his speech, Lalrosanga stressed on the need of the media in creating bridge between farming communities and agricultural scientists/experts. Dr. Sarat Saikia, Chief Scientist, HRS, Kahikuchi; Dr. Dhirendra Nath Kalita , Programme Coordinator , Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kamrup and several other dignitaries grace the occasion. The programme was anchored jointly by Mowsam Hazarika and Abismrita Bhardwaj and Produced by Kissanjyoti Basumatary, in collaboration by Dipok Goswami. Several agricultural scientists/officers and farmers took part in the programme.Two nos. of Goalparia Lokogeet by Jaba Chakrabarty & Party and an agricultural Skit by Rajib Kro and Party also presented in the programme.

Modi vows farmers’ welfare

Gogamukh to get IARC

The Union cabinet on Wednesday approved an institute of Indian Agriculture Research Centre in Assam. Presided over by prime minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, the meeting cleared the proposal to set  up the country’s premier institute at Gogamukh in Dhemaji bordering Arunachal Pradesh. Sources in Dispur said that the Assam government had also proposed a huge plot of 587 acres in Gogamukh for the project. Many organizations in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts have thanked the state and Centre for clearing the decks.

Agri officer dies

Shikha Bora, Agricultural Development Officer, posted at Soil Survey Office, Department of Agriculture,Assam; Ulubari , Guwahati died Sunday night at her official quarter , Ulubari, Guwahati, due to illness . She was around  40. She was a very sincere officer of the Agriculture Department. She is popular because of her politeness and simplicity . Her death was widely mourned in the Agriculture Department , Assam.  She leaves behind her husband,relatives and colleagues.

Examination and health related issues discussed

A counselling session was organised by "Cottonian 82", a group of ex Cottonian on "Examination related stress and Health related issues" at Cotton Girls Hostel on Saturday.  The session was adressed by Dr.Nibedita Goswami, Dr.Manashi Bhagawati Khound and Consultants Mrs Minakshi Barthakur and Mrs Yasmin Dutta.  Students and Wardens expressed satisfaction for arranging such session at their doorsteps and expected that such endeavor will boost morale of students by managing stress effectively.  

Stress on skill in horticulture
