Vijaya Nursery gets Best Nursery Award in Assam International Agri-Horticultural Show

Vijaya Nursery of Khetr awarded as Best Nursery in the 4th Assam International Agri-Horticultural Show 2017, by Atul Bora, MLA , Dispur yesterday. Several dignitaries including Governor of Assam, Agriculture Minister,Irrigation Minister, Vice Chancellor of AAU present in the Prize Distribution Programme held at Veterinary Play ground, Khanapara, Guwahati. 

The journey of Vijaya Nursery began in the year 2006 from the residence of Anubha Singh at Kharghuli, Guwahati. In 2014 , the Nursery shifted to Khetri, Kamrup to have more space for expansion and cultivation in a larger scale.

Few of the plants that she is propagating in a bigger scale are the different and newer varieties of Poinsettia,Aralias, Crotons and Bougainvillea. Apart from various indoor plants, she is now concentrating on propagating different types of cacti and succulents. Her daughter Priyanka Singh's decision to come back to Assam after competition of her studies abroad and her involvement in the Nursery now has given it a fresh momentum. It has greatly encouraged the workers in the Nursery as well as many youths of the neighbouring areas of Khetri. Apart from involving herself in upgrading various aspects of the Nursery. Priyanka Singh has introduced the concept 'Gift-a-Plant'. Instead of gifting mundane, material gifts, she feels that one can consider gifting an attractively packaged live plant on special occasions. Presently, the Vijaya Nursery also promoting organic cultivation .

Assam joined the World Food Day on Monday commemorating the founding of Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) in 1945. The agriculture department steps up measures to firmly deal with the army worms which wreak huge havocs in many parts of the state. In a letter to District Agricultural Officers and other officials, the department said that army worms or swarming caterpillars have manifested in different areas of the State. Bee keeping is going to be s household practice in Assam to tap the potential available in the state.
