Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

PNB disburses loans to entrepreneurs

Punjab National Bank (PNB) in a credit disbursement camp held recently at NIRD, Guwahati, disbursed loan amounts up to rupees 51.20 crore to 408 customers. These loans were given for self employment activities under Mudra, Stand Up India & other MSME schemes, where the entrepreneurs from different parts of Northeast attended the camp. “PNB will focus on collateral free loans to small entrepreneurs to create self employment in a big way,” said Ved Mathur, general manager of PNB adding that the bank sanctioned rupees 2628 crore loans on pan India basis to 365000 customers under Mudra and rupees 735 crore loans to 3400 borrowers under Stand Up India Scheme. M’lya MLA caught in Guwahati

Meghalaya police have finally nabbed MLA Julius Dorphang on Guwahati on Saturday who was wanted in connection with a sex racket. The independent legislator was arrested from a building in Guwahati city with the help of Guwahati police whom the Meghalaya counterpart requested for help to nab the MLA to be charged with running a sex racket in Shillong. Gangmumei Kamei passes away

Professor Gangmumei Kamei, a member in North Eastern Council (NEC) passed away on Friday at the age 77 years in Imphal. His demise was condoled in a meeting held at the Shillong based NEC Secretariat. Born in the Manipur capital city on 21 October 1939, Prof Kamei was associated with several socio-cultural organizations in the country. He was a member of the advisory committee of the Anthropological Survey of India (1984-87). Prof Kamei was awarded the platinum jubilee honour by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad in 2010 for his contribution to the history & tribal culture.
