Dima Hasao election: Youth Congress leader to contest independently

 Jivraj Daulagupu

The congress youth wing leader, Jivraj Daulagupu, on being denied the party ticket, has resigned from congress to contest the forthcoming 11th N.C Hills Autonomous Council election as an independent candidate.

Speaking to the media persons, Daulagupu said that with heavy heart he would be contesting the coming election, scheduled to be held on 20 May 2013, from Haflong constituency. He also said that the congress should not have deprived the youth from exercising their democratic rights.

On being asked what he thought about the congress then, he replied “ I'm still a congressman at heart. I have not violated any party norms. I decided to contest election as an independent candidate only after submitting my resignation letter. In future if I get an opportunity I have no problem joining the party again.”

The senior youth congress leader, Jivraj Daulagupu, had been very active through out his tenure as the president of DYCC(I). He joined the party soon after he came back from his studies in Delhi. Since then he had been helping the party in his best possible ways. Now, on being denied the party ticket for the council election in the last moment, and seeing no alternatives, he had decided to resign from the party and contest election as an independent candidate.

Many DYCC(I) members  had tendered resignation letters to Daulagupu to submit to the high level congress leaders in a group. However, the high level party leaders requested him not to do so. He was allowed to contest the election as an independent candidate from Haflong constituency, supported by the party in principle.
