Bengaluru mesmerized by Sankaradeva Movment

These are the Cultural Ambassadors from the youngest one to the oldest one should be representing India across the world, opined Veerappa Moily, very impressed after seeing dance drama “Chordhora Jhumura”  during the Sankaradeva Movement Bengaluru Programme to promote Saint Srimanta Sankaradeva and Assamese culture. Sankaradeva Movement Bengaluru Initiative has been organised on 1st June at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bengaluru. In a wonderful evening with hall packed with leading intellectuals of Bengaluru, local Kannada people, Assamese community of Bengaluru all enjoyed the beautiful. Ustad Amjad Ali Khan mesmerized the capacity crowd with his Sarod performance which also included a performance with bihu background. Khan Saheb spoke about his association with Assam, being a son in law he mentioned his privilege to promote the multifaceted talent of Srimanta Sankaradeva. Angaraag Mahanta wearing Assamese Dhuti and Punjabi  performed Borgeet as well as his popular Tukari geet numbers. Joi Barua also enthralled the audience with Assamese numbers.

Earlier the Brand Ambassador of the event Mr. Victor Banerjee gave a lucid and heartwarming presentation on Sankaradeva, his life, his creations and his brilliant journey of creating the casteless society of Assam and promoting the concept of Bharatvarsha.  He compared Sankaradeva works with the artistes and saint of his time in the world. Jnanpith Award winner and the famous Kannada writer Dr. Chandrasekhar Kambara unveiled the souvenir prepared by the organisers.  The beautifully developed souvenir has articles from globally known authors as well as Assamese famous literary personalities.

The programme started with an Audio Visual Presentation on the life and journey of Sankaradeva directed by reknowned cinemaker Mr. Sanjib Sabhapandit.  The stage of the event with Namghar backdrop was designed by famous technical director Nuruddin Ahmed whereas a miniature form of  “Guru Asana” designed by Mr. Asifur Rehman was distributed as mementos drew lots of attention of the crowd.

Various books on Sanakradeva and Assamese literary icons was also made available in the auditorium which has a special stall of Assam Tourism given by Assam Tourism Deptt which got lot of attention from local Kannada crowd.  Dr. Lakhinandan Bora,  Dramatist Arun Sarma which is also part of organizing team attended the event.

Srimanta Sankaradeva Movement is being organised by leading Cultural Trust of Assam Trend MMS with support from Assamese community of Bengaluru.  This is the second edition of Sankardeva Movement, the first edition of the movement was organised last year at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi.  Mr. Shyamkanu Mahanta the Chief Organiser of the event informed that the next event of Sankaradardeva Movement would be organised next year in Mumbai.

The Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) has expressed serious concern at the sudden closure notice of Prime News by its management leaving more than 150 employees including journalists jobless. The employees of the Guwahati based private satellite news channel inform that the concerned officials of the management have declared about its closure from today. The Assam Photo Journalist Association (APJA) has condemned the police lathi-charge on a number of photojournalists, who were on duty to cover the KMSS demonstration at Dispur last gate today.
