Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Assam in collaboration with National Sample Survey Office (Assam) and Department of Statistics, Gauhati University is going to celebrate the 7th National Statistics Day on June 29, 2013.

In this connection a day-long programme will be held at the Training Hall of the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Assam, Tripura Road, Guwahati- 28. The programme will be inaugurated by Assam Minister for Planning and Development Tanka Bahadur Rai.

Besides officials from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Scholars from Department of Statistics, Gauhati University; Officers from NSSO (FOD), Guwahati and various other Departments will attend the programme.

Every year national Statistics Day is observed nationwide on June 29 on the occasion of the birth anniversary of late Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis - father of modern statistical system in India for his immense contribution to the field of economic planning and modern statistical system.

The theme of this year’s National Statistics Day is “Labour and Employment Statistics”. The motto behind celebration of the Day is to create mass awareness on the role of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation.

Gogoi to interact with public on live TV

Finally, the five day cultural extravaganza – Discover North East- Assam and Shilpmela comes to an end on Sunday with magnificent display of colour and variety of northeast region.
