Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. Chennai police have arrested two youths from Assam on recovering a huge amount of rupees in cash from their possession.Identified as Zakir Hussain and Anwar, the duo were caught during a vehicle checking by the election commission’s flying squad on Tuesday afternoon.Police claimed to have found a bag containing Rs 1.84 lakh which thy allegedly stole from the owner of a lodge in Royapettah where he Zakir worked.Hussain is believed to have stolen the bag left the hotel by an autorickshaw where he later picked up his fiend Anwar at Periamet.The duo were held were walking to and fro in the city amid sharp vigilance of the Election Commission's flying squad which stopped the vehicle...
Dispur turns into a security fortress a day before the third and final phase of Lok Sabha polls. Dispur Govt HS School seems to have drawn maximum concentration of the security forces.Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is all set to visit the school to exercise his franchise on Thursday. A police constable deployed in poll duty is believed to have been killed in Udalguri district on Wednesday.Identified as Lakhi Gogoi, the policeman in Lakhimpur district was deployed in Rowta for a couple of days on polling duty.His body which bore marks of injury was recovered in Lailpungpara in the morning nearly ten hours after he went missing from the camp. Police investigation is going on to ascertain the real incident.

At least 4 people were killed and over 20 have been injured when a passenger bus rammed into another bus near Nagaon town on Wednesday.The incident took place in the wee hours on the National Highway 37 at Sonaribari in Samoguri where Jorhat bound bus rammed into another stranded passenger bus on its way to Dimapur.Identified as Arvind Kar, Guljar Hussain, Juhur Ali and Sahabuddin, four persons died on the spot. Police Local residents in large number came out to the rescue of the passengers. Thirteen passengers have been rushed to the Nagaon Civil Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

Over ten thousand people staged dharna in front of Baska Deputy Commissioner's office a day after the attack on Nava Sarania's office in Mussolpur. The protestors in large number demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants involved in the incident. They further threatened to intensify the protest if the miscreants in question are not brought. A four wheeler vehicle and a bike were riddled when unidentified miscreants fired upon Saranias office who is contesting as an independent candidate from Kokrajhar in the Lok Sabha polls with support of non-Bodo people.
