Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. Amid tight security police have admitted Akhil Gogoi to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital following his complaint of back ache.The complaint was not new. But police rushed the KMSS president to the GMCH on Friday morning a day after they received sessions court instruction to ensure better treatment.His supported thronged the GMCH premises to get a glimpse of their leader at around 11 in the morning.Gogoi was arrested on March 2 wee hours in connection with the sensational self immolation case in Dispur. After five days in police custody, he was remanded to judicial custody in a number of cases.

The Gauhati High Court on Wednesday will hear Akhil Gogoi’s bail petitions moved two days back.The court took up these petitions on Thursday moved by his counsel. But could not proceed due to non receipt of police case diaries in time.Senior police officials who have been dealing with the three particular cases pending against the KMSS president one in Bharalumukh police station and two others in Khetri police station informed that they were busy with maintaining law and order in the city.Then the court fixed Wednesday as the date of next hearing. Tarun Gogoi on Thursday scripted history as the state’s longest serving Assam chief minister.The 79 year old political leader from Titabor in Jorhat district on Thursday has broke the record of his predecessor Bimala Prasad Chaliha who enjoyed the hot seat for 4,696 days at a stretch.Gogoi became the Assam chief minister since 2001 when AGP faced humiliating defeat in the Assembly polls. In 2006 again, Gogoi retained the hot seat with the help of BPF.In 2011 assembly poll, Congress fared very well and got 79 seats out of 126. He was again sworn in as Chief Minister for the third consecutive term.
