JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

GUWAHATI:A special court in Guwahati on Sunday remanded Rajarshi Sen Deka to custody after the arrested ACS officer was produced before it. The special operation unit set up to probe the scam produced the son of former minister Nilomoni Sen Deka before the court as the police custody ended on Saturday. Deka surrendered before the police nearly a week after he was remaining underground.

IMPHAL:Five people died and another sustained serious injury when the vehicle carrying them collided head on a bus in Thoubal district of Manipur on Saturday. The incident took place on the Thoubal-Yarpai Road in the afternoon when six people including the bridegroom were on their way back to home after attending the wedding party. Suddenly, the driver of the car was believed to have lost his control over his vehicle which collided head on a mini bus which was coming from the opposite direction. Four persons including the bridegroom died on the spot while another succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Another injured is battling for life at the hospital.

KOKRAJHAR: NDFB(P) has threatened to pull out of the peace process with the Centre if the security forces keep arresting their rebels under ceasefire. The Bodo rebel outfit who struck peace deal with the government a couple of years back warned it hours after CRPF jawans based in Mazbat arrested one of their fellow rebels B Khobam from his rented house at Bapuji Nagar in Udalguri on Friday.
