JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Muga Day and Muga Mela–cum-exhibition will be held on November 12-13  at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati. KMSS president Akhil Gogoi dared the NDA government at the Centre to prevent him from eating pork. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Monday, the KMSS leader said, "I am an Ahom. I would like to challenge the BJP-led government to stop me from eating pork. I won't listen to them." According to Gogoi, the beef controversy put BJP in a dicey position in Bihar where the party was thrashed in the assembly polls.  
Continuing his scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi charged BJP and RSS with trying to foment communal trouble in Assam to strike electoral advantages. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Monday, Gogoi said that Modi who talked much did precious little. "I thank the people of Bihar of rejecting Modi and his party," said Gogoi a day after BJP was decimated in Bihar assembly polls.
Will the Bihar poll verdict have any impact on Assam? The straight answer is No if anybody believes Kiren Rijiju. Talking to reporters at the sidelines of a function in Biswanath on Sunday, the Union minister said that Bihar's politics survives on castes. "But Assam does not have caste politics and that's why if anybody thinks that the Bihar verdict would have any impact in Assam he or she is wrong," said the Union minister who hails from Arunachal Pradesh. Tezpur BJP MP Ram Prasad Sarma who attended the function also ruled out the Bihar impact on Assam. He said that BJP has every chance to form the next government in Dispur.
Hours after JD(U) and RJD took a huge lead in the Bihar assembly polls, Assam Chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that the Bihar verdict would help Congress win the next assembly polls with flying colours. Talking to reporters in Guwahati, Gogoi said that the Bihar verdict is a victory for secular forces. The voters have, beyond doubt, proved that communal forces have no place in democracy. He said that this time Congress tally would improve further. "Those who took advantage from me. They took my help for development now have been slamming me alleging backwardness," said Gogoi.
Simao Sabrosa's goal decided the 1-0 victory of NorthEast United FC over Atletico de Kolkata in the Hero Indian Super League clash in Kolkata on Saturday. This win helped NorthEast United move out of the bottom of the table. In a move that can help Assam Congress approach the people in the time of assembly polls a prominent media group in New Delhi has honoured Tarun Gogoi for his landmark achievement on the state's infrastructure front. In a survey the India Today Group found that the north eastern state has moved to 7th rank from 19th in terms of overall growth.
