JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Hours after Akhil Gogoi announced the new political party, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi accused the peasant body leader of taking donations from rich and corporate to fight on behalf of the poor people.Gogoi called it a good task for democracy but in the same breath he said,”I heard that many rich and corporate people have contributed to KMSS.”Gogoi, said he had nothing to say against the KMSS leader for collecting money from the affluent class.

Akhil floats political party

After months of will-it-won’t-it, Akhil Gogoi on Wednesday announced a new political party to fight 2016 Assembly polls early next year.Named as Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, is pitted against the ruling Congress. BJP, AGP and AIUDF in the polls.Gogoi announced it when he was addressing the 4th Biennial Convention of KMSS in Guwahati on Wednesday saying that the party from KMSS will fight for farmers, labourers, middle-class -- in short the exploited class of our society -- and for the basic facilities they need.He said the party will usher in "the actual politics" and will fight for the basic rights, foods, accommodation and fresh air for the common people.

Gogoi’s clarion call to banks

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has urged the public sector banks to help the state develop on all front keeping in mind the social development.In his address at the Special State Level Bankers' Committee meeting on Tuesday night, Gogoi said that the nationalised banks should increase the credit-deposit ratio in the state.Gogoi pointed out that the credit-deposit ratio of the banks in Assam is much lower than the national average.He further urged the lenders to simplify the process of granting loans.
