Militant held at Haflong

Security forces on Sunday nabbed an NSCN-IM militant near Haflong in Dima Hasao district of Assam. He has been identified as Ishambe Pame. The rebel was involved in the kidnapping of district elementary education officer Thangpuia Namlai of Haflong recently, said an Assam Rifles (AR) official. Acting on tip-off from its intelligence wing, the Haflong-based AR unit, along with Assam Police, launched an operation in the area and nabbed the Naga militant.

Hatikhali LDRB to reopen in August

The Langpi Dehangi Rural Bank (LDRB) of Hatikhali town in Dima Hasao district have been closed since February 2013 as some miscreants demand the ransom from the bank manager. Speaking over phone, the bank authority told that the LDRB bank will reopen in August 2014. Langpi Dehangi Rural Bank, sponsored by State Bank of India was established on 27th January 1982 under Section 3 (1) of Regional Rural Bank Act 1976. The Bank’s area of operation comprises of the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao in the state of Assam. The Head Office of the Bank is situated at Diphu, the district Headquarter of Karbi Anglong District.

New rebel outfit in Dima Hasao

About five cadres of disbanded Dimasa militant outfits have floated a new group and launched a massive extortion drive in Haflong and Maibang sub divisions of the troubled Dima Hasao district in Assam. Dima Hasao police have told the government’s home department about the newly floated group and an operation is on to catch the leaders. The outfit — Dima Hasao National Army — has its own letterheads and other items, including two pistols. PAT results declared

Scam accused may be freed soon

The Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) scam accused RH Khan and Mohet Hojai may be freed soon from Guwahati Central Jail as the National Investigative Agency (NIA) has submitted its NOC to the court for their release. If the court permits, then they may be released next week. The Centre handed over the probe into the multi-crore DHAC scam to the NIA in 2009 after Assam Police arrested Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel) rebels with huge cash. The NIA, in its final charge sheet, said that some members of the DHAC helped the outlawed DHD-J to siphon government funds. The NIA accused 14 people including DHD-J leaders Jewel Garlosa and Niranjan Hojai who were already granted bail and are out of jail...

Arms and ammunition recovered

The Army recovered a cache of arms and ammunition after an encounter with extremists in Dima Hasao district on Wednesday. An exchange of gunfire took place in the morning between the 9th Madras Regiment and some militants near Impoi village under Mahur police station. The encounter lasted for few minutes, but the extremists managed to flee leaving behind some weapons.

Two DNDF personnel held at Maibang

Two suspected Dimasa National Democratic Front (DNDF) terrorists were arrested on Thurday evening in a joint operation by the police and the army. According to police officers, the arrested militants were identified as Stamp Dimasa alias Joisholal Hagjer (36) and Probesh Hagjer (24). They were arrested in the wee hour from a locality under Maibang police station in Dima Hasao district. Two more persons, however, managed to flee, the officers said. The security agencies also recovered one AK-56 rifle and its 20 rounds of live ammunition, two mobile handsets with SIM cards, some cash and a car from their procession.

Governor asked PWD to expedite road repair

Expressing dismay over slow progress of a four-lane highway and bad condition of roads in Barak Valley and Dima Hasao districts, Assam governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik has asked PWD officials to expedite the pending work.Patnaik took stock of the construction work and improvement of road connectivity in Dima Hasao and Barak Valley districts during a meeting with the chief executive member, officials of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council and PWD at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.
