3 accidents: 8 dead

Amid Bhugali bihu festivity at least eight persons were killed and 10 others have been injured in three different road mishaps on Tuesday wee hours.
In a shocking mishap, four policemen were killed when the Scorpio vehicle carrying them collided head with a truck in Laluk in the wee hours. Three others have been battling for life in GMCH.
The second mishap took place in Bogionadi where a Tata Mobile vehicle carrying 13 people turned turtle on the road early in the morning where 2 died on the spot while eight others injured have been rushed to the hospital.
In yet another accident 2 people were killed as an Indigo vehicle rammed into a bike in Hajo early in the morning. The bike duo died on the spot.

Assam tables historic bill

In a historic move, the Assam government on Friday moved s bill in the legislative assembly to ensure proper care for the elders.  Moving the Bill on the floor senior minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the bill if turned into an Act would make it mandatory for all government employees to ensure proper care for their parents.  “The government would not tolerate negligence to the parents of an employees. A govt employee will have to face action “ said Sarma.  Assam is the first state to have moved such bill aiming at enduring care for the elders.

Crop insurance scheme in the pipeline

Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), which were delayed due to floods in many parts of the State, are expected to start shortly and the government has also started work to implement PMFBY during the forthcoming Rabi season.  CCEs were delayed as most of the crop fields were under floodwater. It will start very soon where the field officials or agricultural extension assistants (AEAs) will be using smart phones to upload yield data. Akhil Gogoi held on anti-national charge

The Dibrugarh police have arrested Akhil Gogoi on Wednesday a day after the RTI activist announced his preparedness to take up arms to safeguard the interest of the people. A team of Dibrugarh police rushed to Golaghat town in the evening and arrested the leader from his own residence. According to police, they registered a case against Gogoi tried to fuel anti national activities urging them to remain prepared to take up arms as he was addressing a huge rally near the town.
