KVK Goalpara organizes Field Day in Dhanubhanga

A field day was organised in Madang village, Dhanubhanga, Goalpara under the Front Line Demonstration (FLD) “Pitcher Drip Irrigation in Banana” by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Goalpara. One hundred and ten farmers from Madang and neighbouring villages gathered on the occasion. The programme began with a talk by Er. Benjamin Kaman on the pitcher drip irrigation technology. He stressed on irrigating Banana plants during winter months for enhancing production and the need of adopting drip for best use of water. This was followed by a talk on Banana cultivation technology by Mr. Biswajit Dey, SMS (Horticulture). He stressed on quality sapling selection, proper spacing and timely monitoring of the crop for successful farming. Dr Uttam Kumar Baruah, Programme Coordinator chaired the programme and also interacted with the gathering farmers on various aspects of agriculture. He also inaugurated a small farmers exhibition organized on the occasion. He also distributed sweet potato cuttings to forty farmers as introduction of the crop in the village. Mrs. Minakshi Borah Kaman and Mrs. Mousumi Bhuyan of KVK also attended the programme. Two of the adopted farmers namely Mr. Debabrata Rabha and Mr. Dipankar Rabha shared their experience on the technology and expressed their satisfaction. They said that pitcher drip irrigation helps in better crop production and also that it requires very less amount of water in comparison to surface irrigation. They are very happy with the technology and started using pitcher drip in Betelvine also. Two of the attending farmers Mr. Thaneswar Rabha and Mr. Ananta Rabha appreciated the performance of the technology and also portrayed a view of the agricultural situation of the area. The programme ended with hands in demonstration of the technology in the adjoining Banana farm, wherein the farmers interacted lively with the experts.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra Goalpara has conducted a Field Day on "Use of Adjustable Row Marker in Tomato Cultivation" at Lela, Goalpara on 24/06/2011. The programme was organised as a part of Front Line Demonstration (FLD), in which nearly fifty farmers have actively participated.
