Jaleswari Janata SC won Asian Elephant Football Tournament
Jaleswari Janata Sports Club won the prestigious Asian Elephant Football Tournament 2014 held at Kachugaon near Ripu Reserve Forest on Thursday (13th February 2014).
The “Asian Elephant Football Tournament 2014” organised by IFAW-WTI is an attempt to strengthen the links between the Forest department –Local Community-NGOs –Media, along with other like minded organisations and individuals to save the Asian elephants of Ripu-Chirang Elephant Reserve of BTC.
The final match of the Asian Elephant Football Tournament 2014 was played between Jaleswari Janata Sports Club VS Islampur Sports Club at Kachugaon in Bodoland on Thursday afternoon.
Prabin Narzary of Jaleswari Janata SC scored the only goal at 54 mts of the match in the 2nd half. Both team tried hard, though miss quite a lot of opportunities to score. Prabin also got the Best player of the final match award.
In the tight match between the two known football teams of the area, Rabi Koach of Jaleswari Janata Sports Club missed to score a penalty shot at the 37th Minutes of the game. Pwtasula Basumatary, goal keeper of Islampur Sports Club brilliantly saved the shot.
Kampa Borgoyary, Deputy Chief of BTC was the chief guest of the occasion along with Samual Kisku, former state level football player of Assam.
Kampa Borgoyari addressing the football lovers said, "IFAW -WTI has conducted this three days long football tournament at Kachugaon, which a matter of pride. They have been working with BTC in conservation field right from Manas, Ultapani, Kachugaon and Chakrasila to save different species like golden langur, rhino and especially clouded leopard at Ripu-chirang.”
12 teams from different fringe villages of Manas National Park including a team representing the National Park, members of the Wildlife Division of Kokrajhar along with personnel from the media took part in this football tournament, especially curated to promote appreciation and conservation of Asian elephants in the landscape.

Two units of Mobile Veterinary Service (MVS) run by Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) -- an IFAW-WTI wildlife care facility -- have attended to 11 cases of displaced wild animals during the ongoing flood crisis in Kaziranga National Park.
