The sensitive border area of Sonapur is yet undevelopment. In mid-2007 the Naga intruded this area of Assam & killed several people. After that barbarous incident the Assam Govt. declared to set-up three border out posts (BOP) at Sonapur, Soraihujia & Borhula to protect the life and prosperity of the people.
The BOP of Sunapur was set-up on last 20th September 2007 with 50 nos battalions, but the Govt. is not yet provide adequate facilities to this B.O.P. They are facing the problem of drinking water, electricity etc. and the number of battalions are not sufficient to protect the border. Battalions are doing their duty in the light of harikan lamps.

Nazira regional and sub-divisional unit of the Brihattar Asomiya Youva Mancha (BAYM) declared a 100-hours bandha against ONGC on Friday. In a press meet at Nazira, Ranjan Mahanta, President and Rituraj Borgohain General Secretary of the Nazira anchalik unit of the BAYM said that the ONGC continously neglecting the Assamese community and failed to fulfill the demands raised for the all round development of the Sivasagar District; so the organization declared the bandha against the corporate from July 14.
Rangman alies Robin Dey, the writer of popular Bhaskar series was a son of Nazira. Nazira will observe the Rangman memorial day at Nazira Natya Mandir with a day long programme on July 24.
Foundation day of the Sivasagar District was observed on July 1. The Nazira civil administration organized several programmes including tree plantation, town cleaning, cultural procession, drawing competition etc. Mousumi Baruah SDO(C) innugurated the opening programme at Nazira Gandhi. People of Galekey's Bortania village in Nazira Sub division in Upper Assam are still affraid of the gas leakage incident at ONGC's Rig No-E 2005 GK GL Well. This incident happened at 5 PM on June 12 and with a huge sound and polluting the air up to 2 kilometers. Although the crisis management team of ONGC immediately controlled the situation, local people demand for proper compensation. A public meeting were held in this are on Friday in this regard where SDPO of Nazira Ashif Ahmed, AK Kumar GGM of Drilling section of the ONGC, Kashyap Joshipura, Manager Corporate Communication of ONGC etc. were present alongwith other dignatories.

A sigh of relief for the Jorhat poll candidates. The tea garden voters in Charaideo, Dholbagan and Lengibor in Nazira assembly segment will participate in the polling slated for April 7.Earlier, the local units of Assam Shah Mazdur Sangha decided not to participate in the voting.But finally they convened a public meeting on Friday where they reconsidered their decision.

He hoped that Jorhat Congress candidate BK Handique would be able to win the poll with flying colour. In Nazira alone, Handique will get lakhs of votes.“Nazira is nowadays a secured place for Congress and that 11 Ward Members of different panchayats and Simaluguri Town committee joined the ruling party which is a boost for the ruling party in the upcoming polls.
