11 injured while chasing leopard

11 people have been injured by a leopard in Bascobari village near Kalbari in Udalguri district this noon.According to information,the full grown leopard had been taking refuge in the wood in the village last night. Seeing the leopard at around 11.30 am today,villagers tried to chase it and in the process eleven people were injured. The news had spread like wild fire and several thousand people assembled at the site trying to chase it.Udalguri Deputy Commissioner,Sadhana Hojai has talked to PCCF (Wildlife),Assam to depute WTI rescue team from Manas National Park.In the meantime police and forest personnel have been trying to pacify irate people not to venture into killing the animal. ABSU Udalguri also requested people to keep away from the animal.But defying government appeal to refrain from disturbing the leopard, hundreds of irate people have ventured into the wood for chasing the helpless animal even breaking one of its teeth.DN Hazarika,ADC Udalguri arrived on the spot in the evening to pursue people to allow it to escape or to be captured alive by expert team.
