Focus on gender mainstreaming for youths

Focus on gender mainstreaming for youths

A five day residential workshop on Gender Mainstreaming is going to be organized by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development and North East Youth Foundation at Guwahati, Assam from 13th July, 2015 to 17th July, 2015. The workshop will take 50 participants from different parts of North East India. Despite constitutional guarantees of democracy and equality, women in India remain discriminated against and highly vulnerable to gender-based violence.  A strong patriarchal tradition limits the opportunities of women to access education, health, employment opportunities. India’s women-to-men demographic ratio (940:1000) emphasizes the sex preference for men.  Moreover, direct gender-based violence is increasing at an alarming rate. The focus of this workshop will be to inculcate the values and teachings for Gender Equality. The workshop is designed in a logical and systematic way that include relevant academic sessions through participatory methodologies. This workshop will familiarize the participants with the concept of Gender, Gender roles and Gender Mainstreaming and enable them to implement the activities and strategies learnt from the workshop in their own communities.
