Folk artistes felicitated
Young Srijangram, a socio-cultural organisation of Srijangram, Bongaigaon organised a special felicitation programme ‘Proshosti Gatha’ at Amguri LP school on January 25. The programme was organised to felicitate three folk artistes who despite their personal hardships and poor economic plight are endeavouring to preserve Gowalparia and Kamrupi folk songs. Folk Singers- Phulen Barua (known as Junior Rameswar Pathak), Anil Barua and Shyamacharan Nath were felicitated with saplings, Gamosa,books and citations. Overwhelmed with the honour, they expressed their gratitude to Young Srijangram. Speaking on the occasion Jatin Pathak,a retired teacher lauded the effort and termed it as a positive step to keep our folk culture alive. Dr Ashoke Das, Asst Professor Of Abhayapuri College and Aaranyak’s West-Assam zone co-ordinator also attended the programme. He pointed out some possibilities and problems of Srijangram area and emphasised on the significance of sustainable development. Dr Das also expressed his hope that Young Srijangram will play a proactive role in preserving and promoting our folk music, especially among the new generation. The programme attended by many dignataries and local people was hosted by Rinkumani Pathak. The guests were welcomed with plant saplings.
